British Council and ANUIES

August 30, 2024

In a significant development for international higher education, the British Council and the "Asociación Nacional de Universidades e Instituciones de Educación Superior" (ANUIES) have formalized a strategic partnership through a new Operational Alliance Agreement (OAA). This agreement, signed on August 28, 2024, marks a pivotal moment in fostering closer collaboration between higher education institutions (HEIs) in Mexico and the United Kingdom.

The OAA builds on a previous letter of intent, highlighting both organizations' commitment to enhancing educational cooperation. The agreement outlines a series of key initiatives designed to strengthen ties and expand opportunities between the academic communities of the two nations.

Key Aspects of the Operational Alliance Agreement

  1. Enhanced TNE Partnership Guide: The agreement includes the design, publication, and dissemination of an annex to the British Council’s existing guide on Transnational Education (TNE) partnerships with Mexico. This updated guide aims to provide comprehensive support for developing and managing educational collaborations between Mexican and UK institutions.
  2. Expert Participation at Key Events: Both the British Council and ANUIES will support the involvement of higher education experts and leaders in events either led or co-led by the organizations. This initiative seeks to facilitate knowledge exchange and networking among academic professionals from both countries.
  3. Scholarships and Opportunities: The agreement emphasizes the dissemination of information regarding scholarships, research insights, and other opportunities that enhance UK-Mexico cooperation in higher education. This will aid students and academics in accessing and benefiting from international programs and funding.
  4. High-Level Dialogues: The OAA aims to foster high-level dialogues on various critical issues, including higher education policies and the English language. These discussions will contribute to shaping the future of educational collaboration and policy development between Mexico and the UK.
  5. Access to Training Tools: The British Council will provide access to its training tools for higher education agents and counsellors. This resource is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of those involved in facilitating and managing international educational partnerships.

This agreement reflects a shared vision of strengthening academic ties and fostering innovation through cross-border cooperation. By leveraging their combined resources and expertise, the British Council and ANUIES are set to advance educational opportunities and collaborative projects, enriching the academic experiences of students and educators in both countries.

The signing of the OAA is a step forward in reinforcing the educational bonds between Mexico and the United Kingdom, promising a future of enhanced academic exchanges and partnerships.
