Education UK exhibitions – an overview

Create a life changing opportunity to study in the UK.

The UK’s universities are among the most highly respected in the world. International students in the UK rate the quality of the teaching they receive very highly. Value for money is another reason why so many students choose to study in the UK. This is an investment that pays off. According to the Tracking International Graduate Outcomes report (BIS, 2011 pdf), UK-educated international graduates achieve markedly higher average salaries than if they had been educated at home.

Each year, we host Education UK exhibitions in over 50 countries providing prospective students with the opportunity to meet UK university representatives and learn about the benefits of studying in the UK and the opportunities that such an education can provide for personal growth.

Education UK exhibitions in Colombia 2013 – 2014

Partners: 43 UK universities

Outcomes: Effective marketing to 3,100 prospective students

In March 2013, 43 universities from the UK visited Colombia to participate in the Education UK Exhibitions in Bogota and Medellin. The exhibitions were attended by over 3,100 participants interested in exploring the prospects and benefits of a UK education.

These exhibitions were received with overwhelmingly positive feedback from both universities and candidates. The events included presentations from British Ambassador to Colombia Lindsay Croisdale-Appleby, Minister of Education Maria Fernanda Campo Saavedra, Governor of Antioquia Sergio Fajardo Valderrama, and Medellin Secretary of Education Luz Elena Gaviria.

In addition to having the opportunity to speak with representatives from universities in the UK, the attendees had the opportunity to win an all-expenses paid trip to the UK to visit universities and explore the benefits of acquiring a UK education.

Representatives from more than 50 UK universities will be returning to Colombia in the spring of 2014 to meet with candidates and their families. The Education UK exhibitions will be held in Bogota on Friday 20 February and Saturday 01 March, Medellin on Monday 03 March, and Cali on Tuesday 04 March. Attendees will again have the opportunity to win a trip to visit some of the UK’s world-class universities.

Since 2003, the number of Colombian students studying in the UK has increased by 135% according to statistics from HESA, 2012.

The British Council’s team in Colombia successfully implemented a strategy to promote the exhibitions to the most highly motivated and ambitious prospective students in Colombia. This resulted in positive feedback from our UK partners as they value very highly the opportunity to engage with prospective students at these fairs.

“We were all profoundly impressed with the organisation of the education fair in Bogotá,” said Dr Malcolm von Schantz, Associate Dean at the University of Surrey. “We were extremely well looked after, the programme was excellent, and the exhibition perfectly managed and with candidates who impressed both in terms of quality and quantity. The recruitment process seems to have been exemplary.”
